About the Artist

Jan Heaton adores raw, white blank paper. She meticulously applies wet, loose, and vibrant layers of color that create a translucent collage of color, texture and value. Her images recall a calm and tranquil place. a sensual and sometimes quiet look at the details of nature. Her new large-format (5' x 4') paintings push the oft misunderstood medium of watercolor to a new level.

Since her first solo show at Wally Workman Gallery in 2002, Jan continues to receive enthusiastic praise from collectors and critics for her undeniably unique, abstract watercolors. She was recently featured as a top emerging artist in the February 2005 issue of Art & Antiques, with her art gracing the cover of this prestigious national magazine. Since 2002 Jan has added representation in Atlanta, Chicago and Maui.

"Art critic and Art & Antiques correspondent Edward M. Gomez has selected [Jan Heaton as one of] six new artists for prime time in his feature Exuberant Expressions, February 2005. Consider these as buying recommendations from one of the sharpest pairs of eyes in the business." Barbara Tapp, Editor of Art & Antiques.

Wally Workman Gallery is located at 1202 West Sixth Street in Austin, Texas. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10am to 5pm; or call 512.472.7428 for an appointment.
